| Introduction | Klotho is a type-I membrane protein which is related to beta-glucosidases. Reduced production of the Klotho protein is detected in patients with chronic renal failure (CRF), which may be one of the factors underlying the degenerative processes (e.g., arteriosclerosis, osteoporosis, and skin atrophy) seen in CRF. In addition, mutations within the Klotho protein are linked with ageing and bone loss. |
